Raise your hand if you have heard of or used Canva? Raise your hand if you love Canva just as much as I do?! (Did you seriously just raise your hand at your hand right now? LOL.)
For those who don’t know, Canva is graphic design software that you can use to create marketing collateral for your brand. Think, images for your blog, social media, flyers, presentations, and brochures. You name it. You can create it! Canva really allows you to use your creativity to design custom images for that fit your brand for FREE!
Did she just say for free? Yes, for free!
For all my entrepreneurs out there who are looking to expand their businesses but don’t have the bankroll to hire a graphic designer. Don’t worry! Canva is your answer. It has totally helped me effectively enhance my marketing campaigns, grow my revenue and reduce my overhead.
I figured the best way to teach you how to you use Canva, is to teach you how not to use it. (Life lesson: Sometimes we learn the most not from what we get right, but from what we have gotten wrong.)
Now, Canva is an amazing tool, but just as with anything in life, business and the pursuit of happiness, the tools available to us are only as great as the people using them. Strategy is everything people. Without it, you’re just wasting your time, creating images that will get lost in a sea of social media abyss.
Everybody say this with me, “BE SMART, BE CREATIVE, BE STRATEGIC!”
Let’s get to it.
- Say “NO” to those, generic, bland and often free templates.
“But, Tammira, you told me this program was free!” I know I did and I would never steer you wrong. You can certainly create something wonderfully amazing with the free templates. Guess what? Most people are using those templates. Remember, you have to be smart about how you are using your tools. You don’t want your campaign to be overlooked because it looks like everyone else’s campaign.
- Skip the cheese.
Nobody and I mean NO-BODY likes cheesy, unprofessional graphics. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but Canva, even it all its glory, has its fair share of cheesy graphics. Good news! You don’t have to use them! Don’t opt for the clip art. Get your design juices flowing and be creative! Canva offers plenty of features that will help take your images from blah to BLAOW!
- Canva is A tool. Canva is not your ONLY tool.
Listen, I’m all about saving a coin and Canva can help you do just that. However, don’t forget to recirculate those savings into other marketing efforts. Canva shouldn’t be the only tool in your arsenal. Honestly, some things will work on Canva and some will not. You need to ensure that all your marketing material will yield a return on your investment (In this case, investment= time. Is Canva always worth your time investment?). Remember, that word strategy? You have to be strategic with when, where and how your use your tools! Marketing is a reflection of your brand. Don’t forget to switch it up!
