Relax the New Instagram Update isn’t as bad as you think…


Instagram Panic

RISE & SHINE, It’s Monday and I am excited to start the week off great! If you have already login into Instagram this morning you probably have heard the buzz about the new Instagram updates. Everyone is in a panic even started a petition on {insert laugh} but I have some news for you, the update isn’t as bad as it seems.

What is actually happening?

Instagram is changing its algorithm which will change the way your photos are displayed. Currently your posts are displayed in chronological order (based on time you posted). Well this new update will display your post based on what they think you want to see.


What does this mean for you?

Well it means that based on the interaction your followers have with you and you have with them depends on who will see your content. Yes this sounds bad but it’s not so bad if you put it into perspective. You have my thousands of followers but 60% of them don’t like your post or comment on your post, more than likely this means they really aren’t interested in what you are selling. The 40% of followers that do interact with you and your post will be the ones that see your post which isn’t a bad thing because they are more than likely the ones that will buy a product or service from you.  THIS is why I always say the amount of followers have NOTHING to do with the amount of business you do. There are tons of people out there that have over 10K followers but their revenue does not reflect that. Think of it this way, Instagram technically has no way to tell whether you are a business or a person (thank God) unlike Facebook. Facebook pretty much pushes you to purchase an Ad or boost your post when Instagram is still technically still FREE (unless you run an IG Ad through Facebook). In order to keep as many people engaged in your post this means you need to restructure your marketing strategy to be more engaging and less selling. Instagram is forcing you to use their social media platform to be social {insert thinking emoji}!!!

3 Ways to help this change work for you:

  1. Be strategic about your caption. Are you giving them a social media call-to-action?
  2. Post more engaging post
  3. WOW them with your images- Even better use VIDEO!

See change isn’t always bad. This change actually helps you market to your target market and not the tens of thousands of people that don’t give a crap about your product or services!!!

    I think it’s great because like you said the people who like what your selling will get all of your updates versus the people who don’t care. Great share and good points!
