I woke up this morning and without watching NONE of the pageant last night however scrolling down my Twitter, Facebook and Instagram feed I quickly knew exactly what happen. My timelines were FILLED with all the details, opinions and scrutiny regarding Steve Harvey and his HUGE mistake. This mistake is a huge lesson for business owners and leaders on the importance of Social Media for businesses.

Lesson #1- News Travel at Lightening Speed through Social Media

Steve Harvey is a respectful businessman, entertainer and leader who have a large following on social media networks. We all know strategically business wise it was a great move to have him host the show. The ratings of this pageant has drop tremendously over the years and they needed someone that would boost the ratings, Steve was the man for the job! Whether the incident was a publicity move or not it got the job done! Millions of tweets were tweeted immediately about the mishap and brought much needed attention to the pageant. Steve Harvey himself took to Twitter to apologize. Although Steve did a press conference after the show he knew his apology would reach more people faster through Social Media. If you are a business owner think about the BILLIONS of people that your message can reach in a matter of seconds. Yes this can be a bad thing if it’s news of something bad BUT just like Steve you can turn a bad situation into a good situation!

Lesson #2- There are many Life Changing Opportunities through Social Media

Let’s be very honest we all know because of the news spreading like a 24 hour stomach virus on social media Miss Columbia will be given opportunities that most “runner ups” have not received in the past. She will be able to utilize this platform to live her dreams. She will receive FREE media recognition (notice I said FREE) all over the world. Remember social media platforms can help connect you as a business owner to endless opportunities and serve as a FREE way to get publicity through media outlets. If you have a strategy you can make social media marketing work for you.

Lesson #3 –The social media TREND is not going ANYWHERE

Lesson 1 & 2 clearly indicate that social media is going nowhere. Everyone is finding new innovative ways to utilize the platforms for business, fun and entertainment. It has shown that the numbers of users are growing and the reasons they are on several platforms are to get through everyday life. They use it to make purchasing decisions, stay up to date with news and to be entertained.

If you don’t think your social media marketing strategy should be TIGHT and this Steve Harvey incident haven’t shown you the importance there’s no saving you lol!!!

Leave a comment below about your thoughts on these three lessons. Don’t forget to share this information DON’T BE A HOARDER!!

Hi, I’m curious to where you were featured on Forbes Top 10 Entrepreneurial Websites for Women? I looked online and couldn’t find any references to this. Do you have any proof that you were featured there?
